The Boston Red Sox selected Walter in the 26th round, with the 797th overall selection, of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. After signing with the team, he was assigned to the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, where he posted a 4–1 record and 2.70 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 33+1⁄3 innings pitched across 13 appearances. Walter did not play in a game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. On August 2, 2024 he was released by Boston.
