The San Francisco 49ers prepare for their second preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers on August 20. Christian McCaffrey, dealing with tightness, has missed practice and raised questions about whether his absence is linked to a potential contract adjustment. NBC Sports NFL insider Mike Florio speculated that McCaffrey's tightness might be a cover for contract negotiations, especially given recent lucrative deals for other running backs. Florio noted that McCaffrey, 30, is due to earn $12.5 million this season with no guarantees left on his contract. He indicated that McCaffrey doesn't require preseason reps to be ready for the regular season, although it remains to be seen whether the 49ers will address his contract concerns before the season begins.
