49ers QB Kurtis Rourke hospitalized after struggling to breathe

Kurtis Rourke, the 49ers quarterback, was taken to the hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties following a rib injury during Thursday night's preseason opener. Coach Kyle Shanahan stated that initial X-rays did not show a break, but medical staff wanted further imaging to ensure Rourke's health. He completed 12 of 14 passes for 101 yards before leaving the game. The 49ers' only other quarterback, Adrian Martinez, entered the game after Rourke's departure and completed 16 of 30 passes for 159 yards. Shanahan mentioned the team would have considered using tight end Brayden Willis as quarterback had Martinez also been injured.
