49ers re-sign Deebo Samuel and Dre Greenlaw after one season away

The San Francisco 49ers have announced the return of Deebo Samuel and Dre Greenlaw after they both spent the 2025 season with other teams. Head coach Kyle Shanahan explained that these players view San Francisco as their home. Samuel, traded to the Washington Commanders, caught 77 passes last season but returned after the team opted not to re-sign him due to declining performance. Greenlaw also faced injury challenges during his time with the Denver Broncos. The 49ers recently signed receiver Dante Pettis to the practice squad, marking his return to the team since 2020. Samuel has made nine receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns so far this season, while Greenlaw has 22 tackles.
