49ers sign cornerback Eli Apple and defensive lineman Xavier Thomas

The San Francisco 49ers announced several roster changes on August 12, including the signing of cornerback Eli Apple and defensive lineman Xavier Thomas. Apple, a former first-round draft pick, was with the team earlier in training camp this year before his release. Thomas, who was a fifth-round pick in 2024, has appeared in 18 games for the Cardinals, recording 2.5 sacks. To make room for the new signees, the 49ers waived receiver Junior Bergen, punter Jack Bouwmeester, and defensive lineman K.J. Henry, who was waived with an injury designation.
