49ers sign running back Zamir White, waive Junior Bergen ahead of preseason opener

The San Francisco 49ers have signed running back Zamir White in response to injuries affecting their top four running backs ahead of their first preseason game. Christian McCaffrey, Jordan James, Kaelon Black, and Isaac Guerendo are sidelined, prompting the need for additional depth in the backfield. White, a former fourth-round pick by the Raiders, had his most productive season in 2023 with 451 rushing yards. The 49ers also signed cornerback Eli Apple and defensive lineman Xavier Thomas to one-year deals.
