A man dies after falling inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

A 51-year-old man died on Monday morning following a fall inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. University of Florida Police Department officers responded to the stadium at 9:47 a.m. after receiving a call regarding a person in the west concourse. The man was located standing on a concrete beam, and authorities attempted to persuade him to move to a safe area. He subsequently stepped off the beam and fell into the stadium bowl. Emergency personnel from the Alachua County Fire Rescue attempted life-saving procedures, but he was pronounced dead at 10:05 a.m. ET. Police confirmed the individual had no affiliation with the University of Florida and characterized the event as an isolated incident. An investigation into the death remains ongoing. The stadium is scheduled to host the Florida Gators season opener against FAU this coming Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
