Aaron Boone says Giancarlo Stanton remains a candidate for Yankees return

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated on September 6, 2026, that Giancarlo Stanton has not been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Stanton has been sidelined since late April due to a right calf strain and was transferred to the 60-day injured list on August 25. While he appeared close to returning last month, he suffered a setback with a strain to his opposite calf. Boone noted that the designated hitter has been hitting as part of his recovery process. The Yankees currently sit in the middle of a three-game series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. Should Stanton return to the active roster, he would likely be utilized as a designated hitter, though the current depth chart features Ben Rice in that role. The Yankees continue their series against the Padres with the finale scheduled for Sunday at 4:10 p.m. EDT.
