Abakar Sylla has left RC Strasbourg Alsace on a permanent transfer to Turkish Super Lig club Gaziantep. The 23-year-old defender joined Strasbourg from Club Brugge three years ago for €20m but struggled to maintain a consistent role under several managers. He spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at FC Nantes, which resulted in that club's relegation to Ligue 2. Upon returning to Strasbourg this summer, the Ivory Coast international did not appear in any matches under new manager Hugo Oliveira. His departure is part of a broader defensive reshuffle at Strasbourg, which has also seen Soumaila Coulibaly and Andrew Omobamidele depart on loan deals this week. The transfer fee for the move to Gaziantep has not been disclosed.
