Abilene Reporter-News selects high school football athletes for weekly poll

The Abilene Reporter-News has released its list of candidates for the City National Bank Big Country High School Athlete of the Week for the period of August 31 through September 6. The nominees, representing various high schools across the region, include players like Keaton Anderson of Seymour, who passed for four touchdowns in a victory against Hamlin, and Zyler McClendon of Stephenville, who rushed for 246 yards in a win over Brownwood. Other notable performances include Lane Couch of De Leon, who recorded 209 rushing yards, and Austin Joslin of Coahoma, who threw for 304 yards. The publication collects nominations weekly to highlight standout efforts in varsity sports throughout the region. The public poll is currently open and will close at 5 p.m. Friday, with the winner announced shortly after the deadline. Coaches and readers can continue to submit nominations by Saturday evening for future consideration.
