Achraf Hakimi faces trial as Morocco captain is booed at World Cup

Summary

Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi was booed during his team's World Cup match against Scotland in Boston on June 19. The booing followed a ruling from a French appeals court confirming that Hakimi will stand trial for rape, a case that has been ongoing since March 2023. Hakimi, who denies any wrongdoing, expressed his belief that his fame has influenced the proceedings. The Moroccan team had previously drawn 1-1 with Brazil in their opening match of the tournament.
