- 5:00 AMCageside Seats — Rumor Roundup (Oct. 2, 2026): Sheamus in AEW, New Level vs. The Elite, WrestleMania 43, more!
"After recently signing the former New Day, is AEW on the verge of bringing in another major free agent from WWE? Let’s see what today’s rumors have to say about it! Top rumor of the day: AEW is interested in signing free agent Sheamus A source told WrestleVotes Radio that AEW is expected to have interest in signing Sheamus to a full-time contract. The 90-day non compete clause in his WWE contract was believed to expire on October 1, which means he is now a free agent. The outlet notes that while there were no discussions between AEW and Sheamus prior to October, several AEW stars are said to be in favor of Tony Khan adding him to the roster and announcing that he is All Elite. There is no current timetable for when that might happen. The bottom line is that if the 48-year-old Celtic Warrior wants to keep wrestling outside of WWE and doesn’t want to take a massive pay cut by going to NJPW, then AEW stands out as his most attractive option in free agency. The rest of the rumors! Self Made Pro’s Ibou mentioned that Kenny Omega’s next major storyline in AEW will see him team up with the Young Bucks for a feud against New Level and Swerve Strickland. However, AEW fans will be “surprised by what the alignments are.” According to WrestleVotes, WWE is in no rush to set an official date for WrestleMania 43 next year in Saudi Arabia. Announcing a date isn’t a priority due to “special circumstances surrounding this event,” which includes the way ticket distribution is expected to work. One consequence of this decision is that it keeps “stateside competition in limbo” while trying to plan for events around it. Votes chimed in on the recent rumor about Jaida Parker joining 946 being a sign that Naomi is returning to WWE soon. Votes says there isn’t any indication that Naomi’s return is currently planned for that storyline. However, as recently as SummerSlam, there was an internal expectation that Naomi will be back by the end of 2026. Regarding AEW World Champion Will Ospreay telling WWE, “Do not fucking step to us ever again” after All Out, Votes indicates that WWE’s reaction is they will keep counter programming AEW, and this is only the start of it. Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer adds that a lot of people weren’t happy with WWE’s decision to air Worlds Collide at the same time as AEW’s tribute to PAC on Dynamite, especially because it was so easy to just move it to another time. F4WOnline’s Bryan Alvarez mentioned that Keanu Carver isn’t returning to NXT any time soon, after another WWE talent filed a restraining order against him for alleged stalking. For whatever it’s worth, Fightful’s The Hump speculates that Steven Borden and Darby Allin were probably planned to win their tag team match at AEW All Out against Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight, prior to the match being stopped by the referee due to Borden getting legitimately knocked out.
