AEW to launch Continental Cup tournament starting August 8

On last night’s Dynamite, AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley cut a promo where he said everyone backstage is buzzing about the Continental Cup. He changed topics without ever elaborating on it. That left me and many other fans wondering, what the hell is the Continental Cup? AEW gave a much better explanation on tonight’s (July 30) episode of Collision. Take it away, Tony Schiavone! This round of 16 begins next Saturday (Aug. 8) on Collision. The tournament matches are all drawn at random (the names are thrown back into a hat after the first round is complete) and will be contested under Continental rules, which means everyone is banned from ringside. The winner of the Continental Cup will be determined at All In London on Aug. 30, and that man also walks out as the Continental champion. Commentator Nigel McGuinness then broke his own news by saying he can’t pass up the opportunity to win a Cup in Wembley Stadium. He is throwing his name in the hat as one of the 16 competitors.
