AFL clubs open trade discussions as player contract news continues

Fifteen clubs met in Melbourne on Wednesday to initiate early discussions regarding the upcoming trade period. Hawthorn, Richmond, and Port Adelaide were the only clubs not present at the meetings. In other developments, Hawthorn youngsters Noah Mraz and Aidan Schubert intend to remain with the club despite interest from Gold Coast. Melbourne veteran Christian Salem has agreed to a one-year contract extension for the 2027 season, and Liam Stocker has signed a one-year deal to remain with St Kilda. Additionally, North Melbourne has secured mid-season recruit Ollie Griffin for the 2027 campaign. The official trade period is scheduled to commence on October 5 following the opening of the free agency window on October 2.
