A.J. Hinch expresses no interest in returning to lead the Houston Astros

Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has reportedly declined interest in the vacant general manager position with the Houston Astros. While Hinch maintains a relationship with Astros owner Jim Crane following his managerial tenure there from 2015-19, he is currently committed to his position in Detroit. The Astros have been searching for a new general manager since Dana Brown and the club mutually agreed to separate on August 24. A group of assistant general managers, including Jeff Bagwell, has assumed administrative duties on an interim basis. Hinch, who signed a contract extension with the Tigers during the 2025 season, has repeatedly stated his satisfaction with his role under Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris. Hinch led the Astros to a World Series title in 2017 before being fired following the team's sign-stealing scandal.
