AJ Surace starts at quarterback for Rutgers against Boston College

Rutgers quarterback AJ Surace is set to make his first career start this Friday, September 11, against Boston College at Alumni Stadium. The promotion follows an injury suffered by starter Dylan Lonergan during the season opener against UMass. Surace, who competed with Lonergan for the starting role throughout the spring and summer, made a brief appearance in the fourth quarter of the season opener, completing 6 of 9 passes for 77 yards and one touchdown. Head coach Greg Schiano emphasized that while the transition is new, Surace possesses a strong football background as the son of Princeton head coach Bob Surace. Surace has remained with the program despite previously waiting behind Athan Kaliakmanis and falling behind Lonergan on the depth chart. He will take over command of the offense as the team attempts to recover from its opening loss.
