Alex Eala advances to the second round at the US Open

Alex Eala advanced to the second round of the US Open on Tuesday after a straight-set victory over American qualifier Mary Stoiana. Competing at Louis Armstrong Stadium, the No. 17 seed recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win to secure her spot in the next stage for the second consecutive year. Eala maintained control throughout the match, saving all six break points she faced while dictating the pace of play. Following the win, Eala addressed the strong Filipino support in New York, thanking the fans for their presence and enthusiasm during her appearance. Eala now moves on to face Ukrainian opponent Oleksandra Oliynykova in the second round. This match presents an opportunity for redemption, as Oliynykova previously defeated Eala in three sets during their meeting in Strasbourg earlier this year.
