Alexander Zverev advances to third round at 2026 US Open

Alexander Zverev reached the third round of the 2026 US Open after securing victories in two consecutive five-set matches. Zverev opened the tournament with a four-hour and 53-minute win against Lorenzo Sonego, followed by a second-round victory over Quentin Halys that ended at 2:15 a.m. The top seed has spent over nine hours on the court at Flushing Meadows to reach this stage of the competition. Sophia Thomalla, Zverev's partner, has been in attendance at Arthur Ashe Stadium throughout his run. Zverev is scheduled to face Alejandro Tabilo in a third-round match. If Zverev completes his next match in under 16 minutes, he will break the Grand Slam record for the longest time spent by a top seed to reach the fourth round.
