Thompson enters this extension following a 2025-26 campaign in which he averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game while finishing eighth in voting for the NBA Defensive Player of the Year. During the first round of the postseason, his play increased to 19.2 points and 7.0 rebounds across 44 minutes per game.
