Ames area high school athletes shine in football and cross country events

During the week of Sept. 20-26, various high school athletes from the Ames area excelled in football and cross country competitions. Ames suffered a 16-8 loss to Des Moines Roosevelt while Ballard achieved a notable 21-14 upset against Class 4A No. 7 North Polk. In cross country, Ames secured second place at the Riverhawk Invitational, showcasing strong individual performances. The nominees for the Ames Tribune Male and Female Athlete of the Week have been announced, and the winners will be determined by reader votes. The candidates include standout players from football and cross country events across the area schools.
