Analysis suggests WWE should eliminate cage matches entirely
Summary

A recent analysis critiques WWE's use of cage matches, arguing that they have lost their original impact and purpose. The discussion follows WWE's SummerSlam event, specifically a Hell in a Cell match that failed to meet expectations. Critics highlight that modern cage matches often include excessive interference and resemble typical matches rather than serving as definitive conclusions to rivalries. The piece suggests that discontinuing cage matches could streamline production efforts and focus on what audiences really seek, such as tables. The debate continues among fans and commentators regarding the effectiveness and excitement of these match types.

WWE should do away with all cage matches. Seriously, what’s the point anymore? Today, cage and Cell matches are glorified eyesores for what amounts to just another match filled with tables, kendo sticks, and other wacky items. Oh, and, appropriately, garbage cans because modern cage matches are trash. There was a time when the cage was the weapon. Wrestlers used it as a face shredder to torture their most hated enemies. But for a match that’s supposed to settle a blood feud, there’s no blood, mutilation, or even some clever incorporation of the cage. In the past 16 years, we’ve had only one Cell match that rivaled the original. One. If we have to wait 16 or so years to see another, it’s just not worth it. The cage was also meant to keep interlopers from interfering. Today? There’s as much interference in cage matches as there is in most matches. Last year, at SummerSlam 2025, every Samoan and Tongan not aligned with Roman Reigns did their part to help Solo Sikoa beat Jacob Fatu in one of the most tedious cage matches in recent memory. Some deterrent. Having watched WarGames from the press box at last year’s Survivor Series, I can also tell you firsthand that the cage limits one’s view from afar, forcing fans to look at the jumbo screens. So why not do everyone and yourself a favor, WWE? Ditch the cage. RIP the C-E-L-L. Y’all are about money? Well, that’s less equipment you gotta lug around and less construction to pay for. You’re welcome. And honestly? I don’t think anyone would even care, so long as you give the people what they really want: TABLES.
