Analysts rank Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy as sixth among NFL coaching pairs

Garrett Podell of CBS Sports recently ranked the San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and quarterback Brock Purdy as the sixth-best coach-quarterback tandem in the NFL entering the 2026 season. The list placed the Los Angeles Rams pair of Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford in the top spot, followed by Kansas City Chiefs duo Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. Mike MacDonald and Sam Darnold of the Seattle Seahawks were ranked third. While analysts highlight Purdy’s high situational efficiency on third and fourth downs, concerns regarding his durability persist following a turf toe injury that sidelined him for eight games in 2025. Over the last three seasons, Purdy has missed a combined 11 games. Despite these challenges, the team managed to reach the playoffs and secure a road postseason victory against the Philadelphia Eagles while dealing with extensive roster injuries.
