Andrew Knizner signs with San Francisco Giants after leaving Red Sox

Catcher Andrew Knizner has signed a contract with the San Francisco Giants after opting out of his minor-league deal with the Boston Red Sox. The Giants made the announcement, indicating that Knizner will replace catcher Zach Morgan, who is being demoted to Triple-A. Knizner, 31, had a successful stint at Triple-A Boston, hitting.316 with two home runs and 16 RBIs in 21 games. His move comes following the Red Sox's acquisition of catcher Adley Rutschman, limiting Knizner's chances at the major league level in Boston. This will provide Knizner a better opportunity to return to the majors with the Giants.
