Andrew Sears makes MLB debut with Detroit Tigers against Royals

Andrew Sears made his MLB debut for the Detroit Tigers on August 22, 2026, against the Kansas City Royals. In a bullpen game, Sears pitched four innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out three. The Tigers ultimately lost the game 11-7. Sears is the sixth UConn baseball alum to debut in 2026, setting a new program record for most players appearing in a single MLB season. Prior to his debut, Sears posted a 2.16 ERA in the minors this season, primarily with Double-A Erie. He was drafted in the 10th round of the 2023 MLB Draft after transferring from Rhode Island College.
