Andy Gray returns to UK soccer commentary for Champions League opener

Andy Gray will return to UK radio commentary for the first time since his 2011 departure from Sky Sports. The former Everton player is scheduled to co-commentate alongside Jim Proudfoot during the TalkSport broadcast of the Champions League match between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid at Anfield this Tuesday. Gray previously worked for beIN Sports in Qatar following his exit from Sky Sports, where he and colleague Richard Keys were dismissed after being recorded making derogatory and sexist comments regarding assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis and female match officials. Since their contract with beIN Sports ended last season, both have returned to the UK to produce a podcast. Gray recently stated his interest in returning to the airwaves for radio broadcasts rather than television. This appearance marks his first commentary role for a UK broadcaster in over 15 years.
