The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 on Tuesday, maintaining their hold on the third and final American League Wild Card spot. Cleveland now holds a 1.5-game lead over the Texas Rangers with a 70-68 record. Rookie Angel Genao broke open a slim one-run lead in the seventh inning by hitting a two-run home run off Joe Mantiply. Genao also provided a key defensive play in the ninth inning, recording an out on a ground ball hit by Alejandro Kirk.
