Arizona Diamondbacks score five runs in tenth inning to defeat Kansas City Royals

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-4 in ten innings at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday. After nine scoreless frames, Arizona reliever Craig Kimbrel surrendered five runs in the top of the tenth, highlighted by an Ildemaro Vargas bunt and a series of singles. The Royals attempted a rally in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs off an RBI double from Carter Jensen and a three-run double by Salvador Perez, but Nick Loftin struck out to end the game with the tying run at third base. Royals starting pitcher Noah Cameron struck out seven over six scoreless innings, while Nate Pearson contributed two dominant frames of relief. Both teams executed unassisted double plays during the game. The teams are scheduled to play again on Monday at 6:40pm US Central.
