Arizona State hockey player Matthew Mayich has no chance of recovery

Arizona State hockey player and St. Louis Blues prospect Matthew Mayich has no chance of recovery following a collapse during a workout on August 20. The 21-year-old athlete collapsed during a training session held on the first day of the university's fall semester. Attorney Rob Carey, who represents the Mayich family, stated there is zero chance of recovery for the player. The session was conducted by a non-university employee and involved high-intensity exercises in temperatures of at least 87 degrees. The St. Louis Blues have acknowledged the situation while Mayich continues to receive treatment at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix. Arizona State is currently conducting an internal review regarding the incident and its existing heat illness guidelines.
