Arsenal forward Ceadach O’Neill faces international career decision

Arsenal attacker Ceadach O’Neill remains eligible to represent either Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. Although the 18-year-old featured in senior international friendlies for Northern Ireland against Guinea and France, those appearances did not permanently lock his eligibility under FIFA rules. He holds entitlement to citizenship for both nations under the Good Friday Agreement. Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill included the youngster in the senior squad, but his long-term allegiance remains undecided. A decision may occur during upcoming Nations League fixtures. If O’Neill plays in a competitive match against Georgia on September 25 or Hungary on September 28, he would be permanently tied to Northern Ireland. Conversely, a potential switch to the Republic of Ireland would prevent any future return to the Northern Ireland setup.
