Artist Robert Vargas unveils Chargers mural at DoubleTree hotel in Torrance

Artist Robert Vargas unveiled a new mural titled "The Storm is Coming" on the side of the DoubleTree Torrance hotel on September 8. The artwork features portraits of Los Angeles Chargers players Justin Herbert and Derwin James Jr. to celebrate local pride and the upcoming NFL season. Vargas, who previously created the Shohei Ohtani mural in Little Tokyo, designed the piece to serve as a visual anchor for the South Bay community. The team opens its 2026 campaign at home on September 13 against the Arizona Cardinals. This game marks the first official appearance for the roster since their loss to the New England Patriots during the 2025 wild card round. The Chargers enter the new season with expectations of competing for a deeper playoff run behind the leadership of Herbert and James.
