The Houston Astros signed veteran LaMonte Wade Jr. to a Major League contract on June 4, 2026. Wade, a 32-year-old outfielder and first baseman, aims to enhance the Astros' offensive capabilities, particularly complementing slugger Yordan Alvarez. Last season, Wade played for the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels, averaging 16 home runs per 162 games over his career. To add Wade to the 40-man roster, the Astros must make a corresponding move by releasing or designating another player for assignment.
- •Wade opted out of a minor league contract with the White Sox last week
- •He connected for a career-high 18 homers in 2021
- •Astros manager Joe Espada may use Wade against left-handed pitchers
- •The Astros’ 40-man roster is currently at capacity
