Athletic trainers prioritize student athlete safety as school football season begins

College SportsThe North Mississippi Medical Center Sports Medicine Program is preparing for the new school football season, focusing on athlete safety amid extreme heat conditions. With the start of the year, the program has provided certified athletic trainers across nine hospitals and Itawamba Community College to help keep student athletes hydrated and safe. Trainers are implementing guidelines based on the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature and have emergency plans in place for injuries. A free Saturday morning injury clinic for area varsity athletes will also be offered during the season. This marks the 31st year that the program will provide this critical support.
