Athletics begin series against Royals in Kansas City

The Oakland Athletics face the Kansas City Royals tonight in the opening game of a four-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Both teams have struggled this season, holding the two of the three worst records in the league. A’s right-hander Mason Barnett, with a 1-3 record and 6.16 ERA, aims for a quality start after the team's recent series victory over the Texas Rangers. The Royals counter with 2026 MLB All-Star Michael Wacha, who seeks to break a seven-start winless streak. Kansas City has strengthened its lineup with the return of third baseman Maikel Garcia and first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino from the injured list.
