Athletics prospect Leo De Vries to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery

Oakland Athletics shortstop Leo De Vries is scheduled for anterior labrum repair surgery on his right shoulder on September 13. The 19-year-old is expected to remain sidelined for approximately eight months following the procedure. De Vries, ranked as the No. 2 prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, arrived with the Athletics last year as the centerpiece of the trade sending Mason Miller to the San Diego Padres. He spent the current season at Double-A Midland, recording 13 home runs with a.290 batting average. The surgery creates uncertainty for his participation in spring training next season and delays his potential progression to the Major League roster. The organization had projected De Vries as a future starting infielder for the team's planned 2028 move to a new ballpark in Las Vegas.
