The transaction provides the Braves with an insurance option at the backstop position behind established players Sean Murphy and Drake Baldwin. Atlanta utilized five different catchers earlier this season while Murphy and Baldwin recovered from injuries, highlighting the need for additional organizational depth. Murphy has recently returned to form, contributing three home runs and a high OPS during a productive stretch in late August.
