Atlético Madrid agrees to transfer Thiago Almada to River Plate

Summary

Atlético Madrid has reached an agreement with River Plate to transfer midfielder Thiago Almada for €20m. Almada, who joined Atlético from Brazilian club Botafogo, struggled for minutes after a muscle injury last season. River Plate had shown interest in Almada for months, and his move may pave the way for Atlético to pursue Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur. Their outgoings, including Almada, could clear around €14m in gross salary, which is crucial for accommodating Romero's potential transfer. Atlético has reportedly submitted a €30m bid for Romero.
