Alejandro Grimaldo will complete a transfer to Atlético Madrid today for approximately €20 million, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. Negotiations concluded after weeks of discussions between the clubs. Grimaldo's arrival is seen as a solution for Atlético’s defensive needs, and he is expected to contribute significantly to the team's playing style. Leverkusen, having acquired Grimaldo on a free transfer from Benfica in 2023, accepts a fee below their initial €30 million valuation to avoid potential value loss in his final year.
- •Transfer fee reported at around €20 million.
- •Grimaldo's contract with Atlético runs until 2029 with an option for an additional year.
- •Leverkusen pursues best outcome following Grimaldo's decision not to extend his contract.
- •Grimaldo is Atlético’s first major defensive signing of the summer.
- •Negotiations shift focus from Marc Cucurella to Grimaldo due to Real Madrid's interest.
