Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín prepare for another knockout series

Summary

Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín are set to face each other in a direct elimination round for the clásico antioqueño. These two clubs have previously met in five head-to-head series across the League and the Copa Colombia. History shows a clear advantage for the verdolaga side, which has successfully advanced in four of those five encounters. Atlético Nacional secured victories in series during 1999, 2015, 2024, and 2025, including a decisive 2025 Copa BetPlay final settled by an Andrés Román goal. Independiente Medellín remains the only other side to win a series, claiming the 2004 Apertura Tournament final after a 2-1 first-leg victory and a goalless draw in the second leg. This upcoming match marks the next installment of their long-standing rivalry in a knockout format.
