Austin Simmons debuts as Missouri football starting quarterback

Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz has named Austin Simmons the team's starting quarterback for the 2026 season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Faurot Field in Columbia. Simmons, a left-handed transfer from Ole Miss, secured the starting role during spring camp. He joined the Missouri program this past offseason to replace former starter Beau Pribula. A former four-star prospect, Simmons brings collegiate experience from his time in Oxford, where he appeared in 17 games. Drinkwitz cited the quarterback's game management and leadership abilities as primary factors in the decision to name him the starter early in the offseason.
