Auston Matthews reacts to trade of Knies for Marchenko

On September 30, Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews spoke about the trade involving Matthew Knies and Kirill Marchenko. The deal saw the Maple Leafs send Knies, Steven Lorentz, Emil Andrade, and a second-round pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Marchenko, Elvis Merzlikins, and Miles Wood. Following the trade, Marchenko made his debut during the Maple Leafs’ season opener against the Montreal Canadiens, where he played over 20 minutes and recorded one assist. Despite the Maple Leafs losing 3-2, Matthews expressed excitement about welcoming Marchenko to the team. Meanwhile, Knies is set to debut for Columbus on October 2 against the Buffalo Sabres.
