Avalanche prioritize Cale Makar's contract extension amid roster changes

The Colorado Avalanche focus on securing Cale Makar with a long-term extension expected. General Manager Joe Sakic indicated that the deal is likely, with discussions centered on a potential record-setting contract. Makar, a dual Norris Trophy winner, has been key to the team’s success but has a rising price tag, with estimates suggesting a deal could reach between $15-16 million annually. The Avalanche are also making changes to their roster, having traded Ross Colton to the Nashville Predators, creating more flexibility for additional moves. Completing Makar's extension is crucial for Colorado to build a competitive team moving forward.
