Azariah Levells returns to UNM practice following restraining order against NCAA

College SportsNew Mexico district judge Beatrice Brickhouse granted Azariah Levells an expedited temporary restraining order against the NCAA on Monday. The ruling allows the UNM cornerback to return to the team's roster immediately, clearing him for the season opener against Central Michigan this Saturday. Levells filed the motion after the NCAA implemented an age-based eligibility model that threatened his ability to play a fifth season. While the order is based on preliminary findings, it provides temporary relief until a hearing for a preliminary injunction scheduled for September 15. The NCAA will have the opportunity to appear and respond at that time. Levells is the third UNM player to secure a restraining order to remain on the roster following similar legal actions taken by Brett Karhu and Jayden Flaker.
