Baker Mayfield could play on franchise tag worth $47 million in 2027

Summary

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield might consider playing under a franchise tag valued at $47 million in 2027, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. While Mayfield prefers a long-term contract, he is open to this option as he enters the final season of his current three-year, $100 million deal. After a disappointing 8-9 season in 2025, Mayfield's standing among NFL quarterbacks has diminished, leading to a drop in ESPN's annual position rankings. He looks to refocus on winning a Super Bowl as contract discussions continue. Mayfield expressed a desire to stay in Tampa Bay long-term while being under contract for 2026.
