Baker Mayfield signs contract extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Baker Mayfield signed a contract extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 8, 2026, keeping him with the team through the 2029 season. NFL insider Adam Schefter noted that the quarterback was seen dining with the organization's ownership, Team Glazer, at a sponsorship event last week shortly before the deal was finalized. This interaction followed a similar sequence of events at training camp last month, when co-owner Joel Glazer appeared at practice shortly before Vita Vea agreed to his own contract extension. These high-level meetings have drawn attention to the role of team ownership in finalizing significant player deals. The extension was officially toasted at One Buc Palace the morning following reports that the organization intended to pursue a final agreement before the start of the NFL season.
