Barcelona captain Raphinha earns La Liga player of the month award

Barcelona captain Raphinha has been named the La Liga Player of the Month for August. The 29-year-old earned the honor after scoring two goals against Elche, one against Athletic Club, and a brace in a 5-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano. His performance during the opening month of the season secured the award over competitors including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jude Bellingham. Raphinha has continued this offensive production into September, scoring in a 5-0 win over Valencia and adding two more goals in a Champions League match against Feyenoord at Spotify Camp Nou. By netting six goals in his first four La Liga games, he became the second player in the 21st century to achieve that scoring rate, trailing only Lionel Messi.
