Barcelona's transfer plans hindered as Kees Smit signs extension with AZ Alkmaar

Barcelona's pursuit of Dutch midfielder Kees Smit has taken a hit as he commits to AZ Alkmaar until 2030. Smit, 20, has been noted for his strong performances and has garnered attention for comparisons to Barcelona's Pedri. Despite Barcelona's interest, AZ Alkmaar's management prevented a summer transfer, leading to Smit's contract renewal. While this agreement does not eliminate the possibility of a future move, it complicates negotiations due to AZ's enhanced leverage.
