Bayern Munich removes Joao Palhinha from squad after unsuccessful transfer

Bayern Munich has finalized the departure of Joao Palhinha, ending a tenure that failed to meet expectations. The club originally acquired the midfielder from Fulham in 2024 for a fee of €51 million, which could have increased to €56 million with incentives. Despite the investment, Palhinha struggled to secure a consistent starting role and spent the previous season on loan at Tottenham. Michael Reschke noted that the club resolved the situation to remove his wages from the books and clear space in the squad. Palhinha has since joined SL Benfica and made his debut for the club in a match against GD Estoril Praia on August 31, 2026. Bayern Munich officials maintain that moving on from the transfer was necessary to move the club forward.
