Ben Shelton advances to U.S. Open final after beating Frances Tiafoe

Gainesville native Ben Shelton advanced to his first major tennis final on Friday, September 11, following a four-set victory over Frances Tiafoe at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. The semifinal match was an all-American contest that saw Shelton continue a career trajectory that began with youth sports in Florida. Before committing to tennis, Shelton played football and baseball and eventually helped lead the University of Florida to a national championship in 2021. His path to the U.S. Open final involved a transition from junior tennis at Buchholz High School to collegiate play under his father, Bryan Shelton.
