Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe meet in US Open men's singles semifinal

Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe are scheduled to compete in the US Open men's singles semifinals in New York. The matchup marks the first Grand Slam semifinal of the Open era to feature two African-American men. The winner will advance to the tournament final to play for the title. While several Black women have won the US Open, Arthur Ashe remains the only Black man to capture the tournament crown, having achieved the feat in 1968. American men have not claimed a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick secured victory in 2002. Both Shelton and Tiafoe are competing for their first career Grand Slam trophy at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
