Benny Yorston scores three goals for Sunderland against Stoke City

Summary

Benny Yorston netted a hat-trick to lead Sunderland to a victory over Stoke City at Roker Park on September 2, 1933. After starting the season with two losses, manager Johnny Cochrane reinstated Yorston to the attack, where he responded with three goals to secure the result. Bert Davis added a third goal for the hosts, while Joe Johnson scored for the visitors shortly before half-time. The win provided a lift for the team following an unproductive start to the league campaign. Despite the performance, Yorston faced ongoing challenges in securing a regular spot in the starting line-up as the manager favored other options in the forward line.
